Our involvement with national and local educational organizations as invited presenters and authors, coupled with their years of experience, have put ATS&R at the forefront of planning and designing schools for the 21st century. ATS&R’s architectural department includes experienced registered architects, recognized educational facility planners, certified construction specifiers, and construction document technologists.
Planning
ATS&R’s recognized educational facility planners (REFP) and are uniquely qualified to assist school clients in planning and programming an educational facility to meet the ever-changing needs of the students, staff and community. Educational facility planning services include conducting meetings and facilitating workshops with all user groups; developing educational specifications; integrating technology for educational delivery; and developing the space program and conceptual design options.
Mechanical
During the design and construction of the mechanical systems, ATS&R’s mechanical engineering department works closely with the facility’s personnel to provide a proper understanding of the needs and requirements of the building users, thereby providing the most cost-efficient systems to meet the demands of the facility. Mechanical engineering services include fire protection systems, plumbing systems, heating systems, air conditioning systems, ventilation systems, and energy recovery systems. The mechanical engineering staff prepares plans for the following types of projects: geothermal heat pump systems, gas-fired absorption cooling systems, gas engine driven chiller systems, passive and active energy recovery systems, thermal energy storage systems, swimming pool filtration systems, natatorium dehumidification systems, and building commissioning.
Electrical
Each electrical engineering department member provides engineering design support for campus primary distribution systems for educational and industrial clients. Building electrical systems include electrical power, lighting, controls, energy monitoring, energy conservation, technology raceway and grounding infrastructure. ATS&R'S electrical engineering department provides full design services and expertise in the following areas: lighting and power for educational and commercial buildings and sports facilities, electrical support for technology systems, electrical master planning, medium voltage distribution systems, protective relaying, customer owned power generation for life safety and utility peak control, and power supply and distribution for critical systems.
Interior Design
The interior design department provides sensitive responses to the interior design needs of each individual project. In addition to designing the interior of the building, the fresh and imaginative staff of the interior design department also provide the following services: planning; specifications; furniture, fixtures and equipment; and technology and special needs areas.
Technology
The technology department designs systems for educational facilities and other building projects that are up-to-date with current directions and planning for the future in voice, video, data, security and infrastructure. This department has received national recognition with their master planning, design and implementation of educational technology systems for our school clients. ATS&R’s technology department expertise includes the following: master planning; design and implementation of telecommunications; data processing and networking systems; professional sound and intercom systems; interactive video; video production; processing and distribution systems; and security, electronic surveillance and access control.
Site Development
The site development department includes landscape architecture and civil engineering. This department is responsible for a wide variety of site issues ranging from landscape preservation and management, land planning, and sustainable site development to detail design for walkways, pavements, and the areas adjacent to buildings and structures. The site development department is comprised of highly qualified staff members whose expertise includes the following: school and campus planning, sports field complex development, park and playground design, regional landscape planning, irrigation design, wetland mitigation design, sustainable design guidelines for the planning and development of sites, and residential community planning.
Field Administration
The work of the ATS&R field administration department completes the design and construction cycle. ATS&R’s field administrators assist the contractors and owner with the construction of the building. Field administration typically includes the following: on-site construction observation, conduct pre-construction conferences with the contractors and owner, review of pay applications, review of shop drawings, review and assistance in the construction schedule, review of requests for change order proposals, implement change orders, communicate the architect’s supplemental instructions and request for information, and assistance in coordinating the color schedule implementation.
Total Energy Checkpoint
ATS&R’s total energy checkpoint team (TEC) was designed to save clients on maintenance and operating costs by offering energy savings services. ATS&R is committed to providing comprehensive services related to owning and operating a building that results in energy savings and optimal performance of facilities throughout the life of a building. Our goal is to provide you with the resources to optimize your facility’s energy use to save on energy consumption and save you money. ATS&R energy savings services include: commissioning, retro-commissioning, re-commissioning, facility re-classification, energy monitoring, energy analysis, electrical power factor analysis, facility studies, benchmarking, utility company resources, energy star certification and customized training.
